6/28/2018 I passed yesterday with 87% on both sections. I would recommend www.counselingexam.com to practice what the SIMs will look like. However, this site gives you more than you need. You do not need to focus on differential diagnosis or theories and his site does a lot of both. Still necessary for the practice in my opinion though. Give yourself breaks in the test- its a long time to "be on"! Good luck!

8/31/2024 I PASSED:) I followed your tips and took my time to answer. Your website covered the latest crucial information contained in the test, particularly helpful were the Clinical Supervision, Groups, Gotta Know...and, the Breaking News. Of course the simulations were just like on the real test. Perhaps the most important section for me were the ones containing the Differential Diagnosis and DSM-5 information (I graduated in 2012 when we were still learning based on the DSM IV.) The flash cards...everything on this website was VERY HELPFUL!

10/3/2014 Passed the exam this morning with an 89% for IG and an 85% for DM. Purchased several testing guides but the best ones were counselingexam.com and Jonathan Maletz's videotaped workshop.

10/3/2014 Wow, I passed...the test was very reasonable and not as detailed as I would have thought. Know your basic disorders: anxiety, depression, adjustment disorder, bipolar, and personality disorders. No questions about psychoses today. My strongest recommendation is getting counselingexam.com and just keep doing all the case studies. You all can do this!!!

10/3/2014 After having spent a lot of time and money preparing for the NCMHCE, I finally passed it, thanks to your comprehensive online program. I wish I could have found you sooner. This is the BEST program out there. I will definitely recommend your program to other candidates. God bless you

10/3/2014 I've been using Counseling Exams as well and appreciate the variety of study supports on this site. I am finding the way the simulations are set up to be helpful, the quizes and quick flash cards are easy to use when I can carve out a few extra minutes here and there to study. Of course I'm keeping my DSM5 next to me for extra depth review when I find something I'm lacking in. Another added bonus that I didn't think I would like as much as I do is the daily email encouraging me to study and not give into my anxiety!

6/28/2018 I spent about 2 months preparing. First month I read through the full DSM 5 fairly carefully, made flash cards with diagnostic criteria (I never used them to study, so maybe not so helpful) read comments in this group and did some of the free samples on counselingexam.com - Linton's site. This past month I went through DSM again, with self testing - would look at diagnosis title and close my eyes and recall the criteria, then went to differential diagnoses section and did the same - looked at headings and repeated to myself the differential criteria. I memorize best when moving, so I did a lot of this pacing around my office and backyard. Final week: cut out beer, increased intake of dark chocolate and walnuts, continued differential review. Saturday, signed up for Linton's site one day and spent about 10 hours taking practice tests. Yikes, a bit brain numbing. Finished about half the simulations but that was more than enough. It was great prep for the test format. Sunday - rested, dabbled in DSM 5. Monday morning, today, took the test. Tonight - $2 beers

10/3/2014 I purchased additional study programs the second time around to motivate/inspire me, including Jonathan Maletz' Exam Workshop: http://www.clinicalexamworkshop.com/ and Arthur-Brende's Study Program: https://www.counselorexams.com/ncmhce. I also purchased Dr. Linton's program for 7 days before the exam, which was very helpful in quizzing myself on DSM-5 and for the practice simulations. I'm a writer, so I made notecards for Diagnoses and everything else of importance. I used AATBS and Dr. Linton's sites on my first attempt. I found that AATBS was too comprehensive for me the second time around...I will say that the included Exam Consultant services were wonderful, though, and helped with anxiety and to feel that I was not "in this alone" since I did not have a study group. Good luck to those of you studying! You can do it!

10/3/2014 Hi, I passed this morning. It was easy after all of the prep! Every day, for the past month, I have been taking practice exams at counselingexam.com. I also ordered Jonathan Maletz' online course and took that at the beginning of the week. I felt very well prepared and finished the entire exam in just a little over an hour!
