HELWIG STUDY GUIDE AND WORKSHOP DVDs
Dr. Andrew Helwig, who has conducted over 225 exam preparation workshops around the country since 1990 for over 4,000 participants, has now made the workshop available on DVDs. This is a recording of an actual workshop conducted in Denver helping professional counselors and graduate students prepare for the National Counselor Exam (NCE) and the Counselor Professional Comprehensive Examination (CPCE).
The recorded workshop is over six (6) hours in length and is contained on three DVDs. The Workshop DVDs are not simply audio; they are movie quality and can be viewed on most computers or your home DVD machine.
Dr. Helwig reviews content material including theories, techniques, concepts and people, providing visual examples and explanations. He answers questions of workshop participants and analyzes some potential exam questions.
Four of the eight content areas are presented and discussed very thoroughly. These areas, often perceived by counselors as the most difficult, are: Appraisal (Tests and Measurements), Research and Evaluation (Statistics), Professional Orientation and Ethics, and Career and Lifestyle Development. The other four areas are reviewed briefly but with significant suggestions about specific content as to importance, likelihood of being on the exam, and strategies for studying the material. The workshop begins with a discussion and review of the NCE, the content areas, the work domain contexts, scoring procedures and cutoff score determination. Test taking strategies are also examined including how to prepare for the exam.
Study Guide for the National Counselor Examination
The DVD Workshop content is based on the fifth edition (2006) of the Study Guide for the National Counselor Examination (NCE) which is Dr. Helwig’s very popular and comprehensive resource for counselors preparing for the National Counselor Examination, graduate school comprehensives, school counselor certification exams, and similar exams.
The 350-page book does not look or read like a textbook. All the material in the eight content areasis double-spaced and in outline format. It is the large size, spiral-bound and very user friendly. The book includes a Practice Exam of 200 questions and the Code of Ethics of the American Counseling Association.
The Workshop DVDs are based on the material in the Study Guide for the National Counselor Examination and is best navigated with the Study Guide in front of you. The Study Guide costs $80 and the Workshop DVDs are $70. These prices include all shipping and handling costs.
